Do they not have a quality control department. I will never buy another RCA device so long as I live. Last thing on my mind is that the US Government issued certificates (basically subsidized the purchase of these devices).
If they can't make this $40 device work, how do they figure they can compete with Vizio and Sanyo much less Sony, Mitsubishi, or Samsung. So in essence, they ripped off the government. This thing died after 2.5 months. Way to go RCA. You can see from all the negative comments this was a worthless piece of junk. This has got to be the biggest piece of junk and waste of manufacturing known to man.
It just quit working. I recall growing up and my parents trying to stay American: RCA, Zenith, etc. Their QC must have known they die after 2.5 - 3 months and only warrantied them for that long. Sad to say, but this will be more Americans out of jobs because this company can't compete on the global playing field. If I could give this product (and RCA in general) zero stars, I would. Turns on, but will not tune.
Ok RCA, you got me for a few bucks, but I'll be damned if I buy a LCD from you or anything else regardless of the price.
This thing is rediculous, one day one channel works, the next it doesn't. Good old rabbit ears are better than this plastic piece of junk.
The "digital trasition" was a waste of everyone's time and money really, what a rip off. codes, and still nothing (but original remote to the t.v.
Today, my remote suddenly quit "talking" to my t.v., entered all of the Emerson T.V. I am going to be purchasing a different brand of converter box, or maybe just getting cable - this was a waste of my time and money.
I have had my RCA digital converter box for about a year now. The reception is terrible (rainbow colored lines all over the place on some channels), and it's always skipping like a scratched cd.
works just fine).
DO NOT buy this box, and if you ask me the whole DTV thing is a big scam. Save your money and get cable or satillite. Now the power comes on just fine, but no picture. After that it would scroll through all the channels you have programed in and land on which ever one you didn't want. They worked ok for the first couple months. I purchased two boxes using my government coupons. There were times when the box would shut down for no apperant reason only to magically come back on by it's self. No anything for that matter.
RCA also will not back this item with a recall when i believe they know it does'nt work right. Seems like they knew this box would not get the job done. They came out with an upgrade DTA800B1 a little while after and it does pick up all available signals. from me with 2 other antennas in the same vicinity. bought this box on 7/1/2008. Could'nt have known then that on 2/17/2009 that I still would not be able to catch all station. The station in question is only 5.9 mi.
Once you turn it off, it won't turn back on unless you un-plug & re-plug it back in. This thing hasn't worked right since I bought it. Ya, I bought it a while before the conversion date & tossed the box & reciept.and after you don't really get any stations you can go buy a USELESS digital antenna that dosen't even get 1 more station then my old rabbit ears.
